Inside: Blue Serenity

+ Bathroom Design +

I’m so excited to share this design and some inside notes with you today. It’s not common that clients know what they want. In this case, an “occasional” surfer asked for a bathroom design that reflects her cherished moments in the ocean. We immediately agreed that clichés like bright beach scenes, crazy waves or a surfboard on the wall wouldn’t cut it. We aspired to dive deeper.

With high ceilings yet limited square footage, we kept things pretty pure with a few eye-catchers and a cohesive color palette.
As big believers in choosing art that connects with you and has a special meaning we found the perfect piece to draw inspiration from.

Greenery makes such a difference in any space, the bathroom included. Have you ever tested a room with and then without plants – major. Even in the smallest way possible we like to integrate natural elements, sometimes in synthetic form if necessary. We knew this bathroom couldn’t live without it.

Yes, rentals are a challenge when it comes to designing a beautiful home; however, some things can be done. Here we replaced an inconvenient, unusable towel rack with a peel and stick shelf – super easy. Just hide the towel rack on top of your kitchen cabinet and put it back in place when you move out.

We love this shot. Looking at things from a different perspective is always a good idea, in design and life.

Lucky us, we found this textured glass cabinet that also suits our color scheme flawlessly. And everyone needs a place to collect their favorite bathroom literature.

Usually, it goes unnoticed, but only when big picture thinking and attention to every detail come together, it’s a successful design that creates a harmonious and happy space.

Art is one of the best pieces of inspiration and communication. We added a slight twist to this framed photograph and “hid” it behind the bathroom door for a delightful discovery.

Sand in the toes? As spectacular as bringing sand into this bathroom would have been, we opted for fluffy, soft barefoot bliss.

The shower turned into another favorite. Not only do these eucalyptus branches add to the impression of being underwater, they also smell amazingly fresh – like you are inhaling nature.

Okay we admit, we had fun with this one. Did you know you can customize your shampoo and conditioner, and even pick a name and color? Certainly, ours had to be blue and called “serenity” :)

Including personal pieces, like a locally produced soap from our client’s last surf trip is always our goal. And it couldn’t have worked any better, as everything becomes part of the story and awakes meaningful memories.

In the end, this design is all about starting every day with calm confidence and a smile; even you haven’t been riding or been washed over by a wave. For our client, that’s home happiness made happen.
